Why Wii?

Nintendo fans were hoping and waiting to see how they could portray their favourite Nintendo characters in more powerful graphics than that of the Gamecube. Instead, they looked upon a new console with minor improvements in graphics, compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360, but with a new somewhat jazzy controller, known as the Wiimote.

Nintendo decided not to engage in the graphics war with Sony or Microsoft and went a completely different direction targeting and introducing a market to computer games that never existed i.e. Mothers, Fathers & girls. Who would have guessed that after Nintendo bravely taking the different direction when building their new console that they would out sell and own more of the computer game market than their competitors!

The new Wiimote feature brought the fun and gameplay back into computer games. It no longer mattered about the games graphics, storylines, theatricals etc, it was all about the sensory controllers and having fun swinging them around in as many ways as possible!

The Nintendo Wii sparked interests in the market who never had or ever intended on being into computer games, all because Nintendo portrayed their new Wii as both a ‘Family Fun Console’ and a ‘Gamers Console’ with their new feature. The Nintendo Wii has owned more of the market share since it’s release than the Xbox 360 or PS3 and still owns it today. It’s clear that this was a brave but rewarding move from Nintendo and we can only expect to see more of it in the near future.

So, why Wii? It is the best selling console of this generation to date and is suitable for gamers, families, parties, events, keeping fit …the list never stops …that’s why!
